Summer at RCK

Work continues everyday in our temporary kitchen, supplying 2600 meals per day to refugees in the Calais and Dunkirk area. We are sadly very low on funds for the daily output and maintenance of our kitchen, coupled with the costs of building our new expanded kitchen to meet growing need and to fulfil French health and safety regulations.
After much planning and preparation, physical work has started on the construction of our new kitchen, we have had some very kind help with some costs toward this but are still very much in need of financial support.

With your help we have achieved so much, since our first meals cooked on the 1st of December 2015 we have made and distributed over 1,500,000 meals, not missing a day of service. This service has made a huge difference to many thousands of people, with your help we hope to continue this work here and in other areas of great need.

If you or any friends or groups you may know could help with fundraising please let us know, or if you can support us with a donation of any size, as a one off payment or a monthly donation, RCK and the people we support would be eternally grateful.

Up-date from Sam Jones 19.2.17

Here’s a little update:

Outreach food is still growing in number in and around Calais (180-200 meals per day), as well as increasing food to Secours Catholique (160-200 per day) a charity who provide ongoing legal and educational support to refugees in the area.

Dunkirk hot food output stays steady at 500-600, with free shops managing to meet needs of camp population, our new shop van working to capacity very happily everyday, many thanks to thoughtful and generous donation of this van from Calais Action.

It’s clear that from our rising output to all small camps, squats and individuals sleeping rough that numbers are growing in the area.

Many thanks the crew here for herculean baking efforts, pulling an all night baking session, yealding 110 gastro’s of bread, that’s 880 generous portions of fresh focaccia style bread.

RCK mobile kitchen truck is nearing operational condition, with first plumbed gas burner tested successfully, water proof socket in place and sealing, painting and external fixing underway.

We’ve had a little re-shuffle in our warehouse space, improving our storage and working area.

With all these jobs in play everyday we need your support as ever, so if you’re thinking of coming down and getting involved, or supporting from home, please do,get in touch and tell a friend!

Many many thanks to you all for the ongoing help and support, have a wonderful day!

Much love from all RCK team

What it takes to cook 2500 meals in RCK every day

Every day to cook the food we serve to the residents in the Calais and Dunkirk camps we use every penny you donate as wisely as we can.
We are cooking 2500 meals a day at least, with the numbers rising daily.
The cooks are ploughing through huge amounts of food:
100 kilos of dried beans every day
150 kilos of rice every day
150 kilos of onions every day
10 kilos of garlic every day
80-100 kilos of salad every day
20 litres of sunflower oil every day
10 litres of olive oil every day
5 kilos of salt every day
8 kilos of spices and chilli every day
Plus as much bread and fruit as we can muster to hand out every day, all
lovingly prepared by tireless volunteers.
Without your donations, we can not sustain this output.
Huge gratitude to all of you that are helping every day – without you all this would not be possible – let’s do more!
