It is a fundamental human need to have food and to not be hungry. Having food allows people that basic freedom to improve their lives. If you are hungry you cannot sleep properly, your mental health suffers and you have no capacity to organise yourselves, to take care of yourself, or your family.
After setting up Refugee Community Kitchen, in response to the recent crisis in Calais, it became evident that there were refugees living on the streets in the UK adding to the already growing homeless crisis. With our skill set and the skill sharing that had taken place in the Refugee Community kitchen in Calais we knew that we could take that knowledge, bring it home and apply it to suit the needs of the homeless in London and hopefully further afield in the UK.
Now we have taken that step, to address this problem Refugee Community Kitchen has started up a homeless outreach feeding warm rich nourishing meals on the street with a smile.
We plan to expand the RCK outreach first across London providing hot food to as many people as possible on a regular basis.
